Developed by Dr. Peter Levine, Somatic Experiencing® (SE) is a powerful method for addressing the psychobiology of stress and trauma. This body-based approach understands that symptoms of traumatic stress are often expressions of incomplete self-protective responses of fight, flight or freeze. SE helps people complete these innate biological responses and awakens our inherent capacity for resilience. Both a therapeutic and educational approach, the principles of SE are applicable in a range of settings. This in-service will provide an overview of SE and specific applications for clinicians.

Linda Chrisman, MA, CMT, SEP is a Somatic Experiencing practitioner with extensive experience assisting all levels of the SE professional training and providing consultation. With over thirty years of experience, she specializes in an integrative somatic approach informed by her in-depth training in Rosen Method Bodywork, Continuum Movement, Somatic Experiencing and other movement and touch
modalities. Linda is adjunct faculty at JFK University (Somatic Approaches to Trauma) and The Institute of Transpersonal Psychology (Embodied Spirituality) and guest instructor at CIIS (Trauma and Integrative Health). Her articles have appeared in Integrating Complementary Medicine into Health Systems, The Gale Group Encyclopedia of Alternative Medicine, Being Bodies: Buddhist Women on
the Paradox of Embodiment, and The Massage Therapy Journal. She holds a Master’s degree in Philosophy and Religion from the California Institute of Integral Studies, and a BA in Psychology from Stanford University. Linda has a private practice in Oakland and Lafayette and works closely with psychotherapists, physicians and other health care providers.
