Here in the Bay Area, we live in great diversity and are faced with challenges around differences when interacting with others, even those close to us. As an first generation Asian-American psychotherapist, I am conscious of the influence of cultural experiences on the shaping of our sense of selves and our relationships with others. Every person has resiliency and desire for growth in midst of difficulties. I see the person as a whole, with his or her uniqueness stemming from individual personality, family background, cultural context, and current circumstances he or she is facing.

In my clinical work, I have developed particular expertise in trauma recovery, personality difficulties, attachment and intimacy issues, identity development, and multicultural issues. I work with couples facing difficulties around interracial relationships, non-traditional roles, and infidelity.

My approach focuses on exploring underlying motivations and schemas for the problematic patterns in the person’s experiences with self and others. With such awareness, the person can become more conscious and empowered to build self resiliency in face of life challenges. To me, therapy and counseling is not just about solving problems, but also about personal growth.
